Farewell Transmission – Songs: Ohia

The entire song follows these chords: D F C C

The whole place is dark
Every light on this side of the town
Suddenly it all went down
Now we’ll all be brothers of
The fossil fire of the sun
Now we will all be sisters of
The fossil glow of the moon

Someone must have set ‘em up
Now they’ll be working in the cold gray rock
Now they’ll be working in the hot mill steam
Now they’ll be working in the concrete
In the sirens and the silences now
All that breaks it apart
All at once, it’ll start to be

After tonight if you don’t want this to be
A secret out of the past
I will resurrect it, I’ll have a good go at it
I’ll streak his blood across my babe(?)
Dust my feathers with his ash
Feel his ghost breathing down my neck

I will try, oh whatever I try
I will be gone, but not forever
I will try, oh whatever I try
I will be gone, but not forever

The real truth about it is
No one gets it right
The real truth about it is
We’re all supposed to try

There ain’t no end to the sands I been trying to cross
The real truth about it is
My cargo line's(?) no better off
It’s got the map, for if it’s lost

We will try, whatever we try
We will be gone, but not forever
Common, let’s try, whatever we try
We will be gone, but not forever

The real truth about it is
There ain’t no end to the desert I’ll cross
I’ve really known it all along
Mama here comes midnight with the dead moon it’s jaws
Must be the big star about to fall

in addition, when the song reaches "long dark blues", the chords change to D F Am Am

the lead a the beginning is like this:

e-----------------------------------------------------------
B-----------------------------------------------------------
G--6--8--6--4---------8-----6--8--6--4------------------
D--------------6--9-----------------------6--9--9---------
A-----------------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------

It's pretty simple and you all probably knew it anyway, but here it is!

I'm pretty sure the chords for the verse are actually C# E B B, (unless he's tuned down a half step). And at the "mama here comes midnight" part it goes to C# C# minor B F# a couple of times and then on to C C# minor g#minor for "Long dark blues..."

In the interests of accuracy:

C# E B
The whole place is dark
(etc.)

C# C#m
Mama, here comes midnight

B E
With the dead moon in its jaws

C# C#m B B
Must be the big star about to fall
(x2)

C# C#m G#m
Long, dark blues
(repeat to end)
